Your College Journey · India · Class 8 to admission · Lesson 1 of 2

Meet Ira. Class 8 to admission, one year at a time. Plan the year, then make it happen.

Plan your year.

“Plan the year you’re in, with the end in mind.”

Plan your year means: basics first · fit over pressure · understand, don’t memorise · real cost · official sources only.

Class 8 to admission

Each year has a few clear jobs. Plan the year, then make it happen.

Class 8

Strong basics in maths, science and languages, one curiosity, a scholarship check like NMMS, and a weekly routine.

Class 9

Understanding over memorising, one or two activities, an activity notebook and documents started.

Class 10

A calm board year with past papers and an error log, and a stream chosen by evidence.

Class 11

Target exams from official bulletins, school plus focused preparation, and coaching decided by value.

Class 12

Boards and entrances together, forms on official sites, documents ready, counselling, and a college chosen by cost and fit.

How the course works

Five classes, two lessons each, one story.

Why

Getting into a good college in India is a five-year journey: basics, boards, a stream, entrance exams and counselling. Students who plan each year, keep records and use official sources make calmer, better choices.

When

Class 8 to admission: five class levels (8, 9, 10, 11 and 12), each with the same two lessons at the right depth for that year.

What

Per class: “Plan your year” and “Make it happen”, each a short interactive story with Ira and a 10-concept check (100% to move on, unlimited fresh retries), plus a College Studio artifact and a month-by-month calendar. Both lessons and both artifacts earn that class’s certificate.

Who

Students in Classes 8–12, on their own or with a parent. The parent course tells the same story from Meera’s side.

How

Start at your child’s current class, or at Class 8 to see the whole journey. Lesson 2 opens after Lesson 1 reaches 100%. Artifacts are self-reviewed with a 4-part rubric. No rankings, no timers, no public scores.

Where you live

The planning habits work everywhere. The admissions and aid steps differ by country.

IndiaThis edition follows the Indian system: board exams in Classes 10 and 12, streams from Class 11, entrance exams such as JEE, NEET-UG, CUET-UG and CLAT from the official agencies, counselling through official portals, the National Scholarship Portal and state scholarships, and education loans from banks or official portals.
Applying to US colleges from India? The US edition covers the SAT or ACT, the Common App, US financial aid and Decision Day.
CanadaCanadian universities admit mostly on Grade 11 and 12 marks through provincial application centres. International students should check each university’s requirements for Indian boards.

What the research says

The methods in this course are informed by published research. The research supports these methods; it does not prove that this new course works. We’ll pilot it and report what we find, honestly.

Class 8 · Government of India (NEP 2020)The National Education Policy 2020 stresses strong foundational learning, conceptual understanding over rote memorisation, and flexibility in choosing subjects.
Class 9 · Washington University in St. LouisRoediger and Karpicke showed that self-testing builds longer-lasting learning than rereading, which is why explaining and solving without looking at answers works.
Class 10 · Stanford UniversityResearch on career exploration (Damon and others) finds that young people choose better when they explore real work and connect choices to their interests and values.
Class 11 · Kent State University and colleaguesA major review of study techniques (Dunlosky and colleagues, 2013) rate them among the most effective study techniques.
Class 12 to admission · Government of IndiaOfficial guidance from exam and counselling bodies repeatedly warns students to use only official websites and never pay through unofficial links or agents.

For parents

Ask one question after each lesson: “What’s one thing you’ll try this week?” Listen before advising. Keep real family finances private; made-up numbers work for every activity. Your own course, College Admissions Roadmap for Parents, follows the same five years from the parent’s side.

Original Global Yuva content: stories, characters, illustrations, questions and tools. Narration uses your device’s built-in read-aloud voice. Rupee amounts are made-up teaching examples. Dates are typical timing; your board, school, each exam body, counselling body and college set the real dates and rules, which change every year. For informational and educational purposes only; not admissions, financial, legal or mental-health advice, and no admission, rank, scholarship or outcome is guaranteed. Verify every requirement, cost and deadline with official sources. Never pay agents or through unofficial links. If you or someone you know is in distress, call Tele-MANAS (14416) or local emergency services. The class certificate recognizes completion of a Global Yuva program and is not an academic credential.
