Global Yuva Expert Mentors

Your wisdom, at the moments that matter most.

Global Yuva uses AI for the everyday work: intake, roadmaps, practice and progress tracking. That frees experienced experts (retired deans, professors, former admissions and career leaders, established consultants) to spend their time where judgment matters: reviews, key decisions and masterclasses.

Mentor FAQ

What is Global Yuva?

Global Yuva is a learning platform for parents and students, from age 6 to a student's first career. We help young people grow in character, purpose and practical readiness through two frameworks:

  • Viveka to Sankalpa (ages 6 to 18), built on 11 values.
  • Sankalpa to Sarthakatva (Grade 8 to first career), with six pillars: Leadership, Service, Scholarships, Career Ready, Jobs and Startups.
Who are the students?

They are children, teenagers and young adults from many backgrounds and countries. Global Yuva is open to every family.

Who can become a mentor?

We welcome:

  • recent graduates
  • professors and faculty
  • industry professionals
  • college and career counselors
  • retired educators and retired professors
  • college students (as paid Peer Fellows)
  • alumni of any school or university

Universities and organizations can also partner with us. See Schools and Organizations.

Do I need teaching experience?

No. You need real experience to share, reliability, and care for young people. Our certification teaches the method and the coaching skills.

How do I apply?

Apply at globalyuva.org/mentor-registration. The form takes about 5 minutes. It asks for:

  • how you want to contribute
  • your expertise
  • your organization
  • your LinkedIn profile
  • your country
  • the monthly hours you can give
  • your consent to a background check and to certification
What happens after I apply?
  • We review your application within 5 business days.
  • We hold a short conversation with you (about 20 to 30 minutes, online).
  • Anyone who will work with minors completes a background check.
  • You complete the Global Yuva Mentor Certification (about 6 hours, online).
  • We assign you a circle, course, sprint or student.
  • You track progress in the Mentor Console.

Most mentors go from application to their first session in 3 to 4 weeks.

Can I mentor from outside the United States?

Yes. Most mentoring happens online. Background-check requirements depend on your country, and we will explain the process for your location during your conversation.

What is the Global Yuva Mentor Certification?

It is a self-paced online course of about 6 hours with six modules:

  • The method (our two frameworks)
  • Coaching conversations
  • Safeguarding young people
  • Boundaries and the no-guarantee rule
  • Running a circle
  • Using the Mentor Console
Is there a cost for certification?

Certification is free for approved mentors.

Do I get a certificate?

Yes. Certified mentors receive a digital certificate that you can add to LinkedIn under Licenses and Certifications. You can also earn badges for hours given, circles completed and sprints led.

How much time does it take?

You choose 2, 4 or 8 hours a month. Peer Fellows and sprint leads usually give more. You can pause if life gets busy. Please give us notice so we can support your students.

What will I actually do?

Depending on your role and experience, you might:

  • lead or co-lead a Sankalpa Circle, a weekly online group of 6 to 8 students
  • mentor a student one-to-one
  • lead or support a sprint: Senior Application Sprint, Internship Sprint or Startup Lab
  • give a guest session on your field or career path
  • run a Roadmap Session to help a family plan the years ahead
  • host a parent workshop
Is mentoring paid?

Most mentor roles are volunteer roles. These roles are paid:

  • Peer Fellows (current college students) earn $20 to $25 per hour.
  • Sprint leads, usually counselors and experts, share 60% of sprint fees. Current sprint prices are:
  • Senior Application Sprint: $1,950
  • Internship Sprint: $590
  • Startup Lab: $450

Paid roles have separate agreements.

Can I get a letter confirming my volunteer hours?

Yes. We provide signed volunteer-hours letters on request. You can use them for employer volunteer programs, service-learning credit or academic service records.

Why is a background check required?

Many of our students are minors. A background check is required before anyone works with a student under 18. It is one part of our safeguarding commitment.

When can I see student information?

You can see student information only after three things are complete:

  • your approval
  • your certification
  • your background check

You will see only the students assigned to you, and only inside the Mentor Console.

What are the key rules for mentors?
  • Put each student's safety and wellbeing first.
  • Respect everyone equally.
  • Do not contact students privately outside approved Global Yuva settings. That means no personal phone numbers, personal social media or private meetings.
  • Keep all student information confidential.
  • Do not write students' essays, applications or projects. Coach and give feedback instead.
  • Do not sell outside services to Global Yuva families.
  • Report any concern to Global Yuva right away.

You will sign our Mentor Code of Conduct before your first session.

What is the "no-guarantee rule"?

Mentors never promise admission, scholarships, internships, jobs or funding. We guide; the student and family make the decisions and do the work. This keeps mentoring honest and protects families.

What if a student tells me something worrying?

Your certification covers what to do. In short:

  • Stay calm and listen.
  • Do not promise to keep it secret.
  • Report it immediately to the Global Yuva safeguarding lead.
  • If someone is in immediate danger, call local emergency services first.
Will I have support as a mentor?

Yes. Global Yuva supports mentors with:

  • a monthly mentor community call
  • a staff check-in after your first 30 days
  • shadowing for your first session
  • a staff contact you can reach whenever you need help
How is mentoring quality measured?

We look at four things:

  • the session notes you log in the Mentor Console
  • feedback from families and students
  • occasional observation of sessions, with notice to you
  • a yearly safeguarding refresher
Is there recognition for mentors?

Yes. Mentors can earn:

  • a digital certificate
  • hour and achievement badges
  • an invitation to the Annual Global Yuva Mentor Awards
Can my university, school, library or company work with Global Yuva?

Yes. Organizations can work with us in several ways:

  • Universities can post paid Peer Fellow roles and host faculty guest series.
  • Schools, PTAs and libraries can host free parent workshops.
  • Employers can sponsor real project briefs for our Internship Sprint and nominate volunteer mentors.
